What is SmartLabel?

SmartLabel® is an online database that gives consumers a way to digitally access more detailed product information than could ever fit on a package label about a wide range of food, beverage, supplement, household, pet care, personal care, and over-the-counter products. It is fast and easy to use, with a consistent digital format that shares accurate data directly from the manufacturer in real-time.

Why do your ingredient lists on SmartLabel differ from the ingredient list on my deo label?

The ingredient list on your deo label reflects every ingredient, or component, within that formula. On our SmartLabel pages, we are taking the opportunity to disclose more information about what is in those components. The main difference you’ll see is within our natural fragrances. On each SmartLabel page, we’ve listed the natural ingredients included in each of our blends, as well as any known allergens. This additional transparency is part of our commitment to raise the bar on natural products — we think you have the right to know the full picture of what’s in your products and be able to make an informed decision about what works for you. What is the difference between natural’ and synthetic’ fragrances? Why does Schmidt’s use natural fragrances?

We use essential oils and botanical ingredients to create our scents, rather than synthetic, petroleum-based ingredients that are not renewable. Schmidt’s only uses aromatic ingredients which meet the International Organization for Standardization Aromatic Natural Raw Materials standard (ISO 9235). We believe customers have a right to know what is in the products they purchase, and we voluntarily list our fragrance ingredients on our SmartLabel product page.

Show answer for: Is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in your products?

Is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in your products?

We never use SLS in our personal care products. When developing our products, we believe in choosing ingredients that will result in a product that, when used as intended, makes us feel good about using it – and is also effective. As laundry detergent is not designed to come in direct contact with skin, the risk of skin irritation is minimal when such products are used in accordance with use instructions. SLS is highly effective at helping to remove dirt and stains from clothes, and we have carefully formulated our concentrated laundry detergent to ensure low irritancy when used for cleaning your clothes. Our detergents have been tested to ensure they are gentle on your clothes, are considered safe for use in homes with cats and dogs and of course, all our products go through rigorous safety assessments prior to entering the market.

We invite you to read more information on SLS here.

Show answer for: Why should I choose products that contain natural fragrances instead of products with synthetic fragrances?

Why should I choose products that contain natural fragrances instead of products with synthetic fragrances?

To be sustainable an ingredient must participate in a cycle… like growing as a plant and returning to the environment (i.e. as compost or regenerative agriculture) to be taken up by a plant, so the process can be repeated. This cannot be done with a synthetic, petroleum-based ingredient. It is also important that a company disclose all the fragrance ingredients in a product so the customer can judge whether they may have a sensitivity to any of the fragrance components present in a scent.
